Coming Soon: Accreditation for Assisted Living Communities
The Joint Commission is developing an Assisted Living Community Accreditation Program to help providers deliver consistent, high reliable care in critical areas impacting the quality and safety of its residents and staff.
A Higher Standard, in High Demand
Today, there are more than 30,000 assisted living communities in the U.S. serving more than 800,000 residents. As providers grow in number, so do the type and levels of service they provide presenting assisted living leaders with a unique combination of quality and safety challenges. We can help.
The Joint Commission, the nation’s leading performance improvement organization can help you standardize key processes within and across locations that impact quality and safety — for both residents and staff. Providing a valuable external perspective of your performance against nationally recognized standards, our experts share industry best practices and pinpoint risks before they can become costly problems. Also, achieving our coveted Gold Seal of Approval® uniquely distinguishes and strengthens the perception of your brand’s quality in the market.
A Collaborative Approach to Standard Setting
The Joint Commission’s approach to standards development includes working together with a panel of experts in the assisted living community field. Standards are developed with consideration to scientific evidence and best practices, as well as state regulations and local safety codes.
Our accreditation standards focus on areas critical to quality, safety and resident experience including the environment, staffing, emergency management, dementia care, medication management, provision of care and services, process improvement, and more.
Help Us Shape the Program
Our standards experts conduct pilots and learning visits as part of our development process with the goal of evaluating the applicability and saliency of the standards and survey process in real-time.
We are currently looking for organizations to participate in a two-day, on-site pilot. The pilot would take place on-site at your facility at no cost to you. Learn more about the process here.
Timeline to Achieve Accreditation
The standards and application for the Assisted Living Community Accreditation Program will be made available in early 2021.
