Kathryn D. Petrovic

Vice President for Accreditation and Certification Product Development

Kathryn Petrovic, MSN, RN, is Vice President for Accreditation and Certification Product Development. In this role, she oversees the development and revision of the standards for all domestic and international accreditation and certification programs. She is also responsible for establishing survey processes used to assess compliance with standards’ requirements.

Ms. Petrovic was previously the Director of the Department of Standards and Survey Methods (DSSM). Under her leadership, she directed the standards reduction initiative to streamline The Joint Commission requirements and the development of key mission-driven products such as health care equity, sustainable healthcare, and maternal safety. She also served as a field director in the Department of Surveyor Management and Development for the Behavioral Health Care and Psychiatric Hospital programs where she provided direction, leadership, and training to surveyors. She also served as Senior Associate Director in The Joint Commission’s Standards Interpretation Group and a surveyor for the Psychiatric Hospital and Behavioral Health programs.

Ms. Petrovic has more than 20 years of leadership experience in the healthcare industry. Prior to joining The Joint Commission, she served as a nurse leader in several health care organizations. In those roles she addressed complex clinical and operational challenges and fostered cohesive, multidisciplinary, and interdepartmental teams.

Ms. Petrovic received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana, and her Master of Science degree in Nursing Administration from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois.
