The Joint Commission recognizes World Patient Safety Day
The World Health Organization (WHO) introduced World Patient Safety Day in 2019. Recognized annually on Sept. 17, it represents a global call for solidarity and concerted action by all countries and international partners to improve patient safety.
The Joint Commission is joining that call. We’ve led the charge for improving patient safety and quality of care through the accreditation of healthcare organizations and certification of clinical programs for more than 70 years. Today, we continue that work in the United States and 76 countries.
Our new World Patient Safety Day webpage features content for healthcare organizations tailored to this year’s theme, “Engaging Patients for Patient Safety,” including video messages from Jonathan B. Perlin, MD, PhD, MSHA, MACP, FACMI, President and Chief Executive Officer, The Joint Commission Enterprise, and from Joint Commission staff, blog posts, Speak Up™ patient education campaigns, Sentinel Event data related to patient engagement, and more.
