Take 5 for the John M. Eisenberg Award: Veteran's Health Administration

We’re celebrating the 2020 John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Award recipients in this special Take 5 series. These awards recognize major achievements to improve patient safety and health care quality. There are three recipients each year: for an individual; an organization impacting quality care at a national level; and an organization impacting quality care at a local level.

In this episode, we are joined by Elizabeth M. Oliva, PhD, the VA National Opioid Overdose Education and Naloxone Distribution (OEND) Coordinator. Elizabeth Oliva received her PhD in Developmental Psychopathology and Clinical Science from the University of Minnesota, studying the etiology of substance use from adolescence to early adulthood. Her areas of expertise include the etiology of substance use disorders, substance use disorder treatment research and strategies to address the opioid crisis.

The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Rapid Naloxone Initiative has earned the Innovation in Patient Safety and Quality at the National Level recognition.
