Take 5: The TakeCHARGE Campaign’s 5 Steps to Safer Health Care – Prevent Infections and Ask Caregivers to Wash Their Hands

The Joint Commission is a proud supporter of the TakeCHARGE Campaign which looks to better patient safety by encouraging people to become informed and active participants of their health care team. The campaign does this through the 5 Steps to Safer Health Care. In this episode we’re covering step 4, which addresses preventing infections and asking caregivers to wash their hands. Listen in as Luc Vezina, RN and Joint Commission behavioral health care surveyor, talks about risks to patients if caregivers are not performing proper hand hygiene, the preferred method for health care workers and consumers to clean their hands, ways to ensure clinicians won’t spread infections to patients and the safest way to use antibiotics.
