The Joint Commission was recently recognized as an accreditor by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for providers of durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, or supplies seeking Medicare reimbursement under Part B. To view all standards and elements of performance for home medical equipment organizations that will be evaluated by The Joint Commission click on the link below.
Note:
The applicability grid references for EP 20 for Standard EC.6.30 (The organization plans for effective selection, delivery, setup, and maintenance of equipment and supplies provided to patients.) and EP 20 and EP 30 for Standard IM.6.20 (Records contain patient-specific information, as appropriate to the care, treatment, and services provided.) are incorrect and should be changes as shown:
- EP 20 for Standard EC.6.30 is not applicable for rehabilitation technology services.
- EP 29 for Standard IM.6.20 is not applicable for durable medical equipment, prosthetics & orthotics, supplies, and clinical respiratory services.
- EP 30 for Standard IM.6.20 is not applicable for durable medical equipment, supplies, clinical respiratory services. and rehabilitation technology services.
Please make a note of these changes. They will be corrected in the 2007 Update 2 for the "Comprehensive Accreditation Manual for Home Care".
