Life Safety Code Inspections - Fire Safety Inspections

Are building fire safety or Fire Marshall inspections an annual requirement?

Any examples are for illustrative purposes only.

The Joint Commission does not mandate a specific frequency for inspections by the Fire Marshal or other fire safety authority.  It is up to the organization to determine the frequency, in cooperation with the fire marshal or other authority having jurisdiction.  However, the Joint Commission will evaluate whether inspections are being done per the organization's policy.  Insurance companies may have a frequency requirement, so that should be considered when determining the policy.

Standard LS.01.01.01 EP5 requires that the organization "maintains documentation of any inspections and approvals made by state or local fire control agencies."  These will be reviewed during survey to determine whether the organization acts upon identified deficiencies in a timely manner.
