Check out 2018 National Patient Safety Goals; new MDRO goal for nursing care centers

JC_Online_Nov._22The 2018 National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs) are now available on The Joint Commission’s website. You can download the entire chapter from the accreditation standards manual or easy-to-read versions.

NPSG.07.03.01, which addresses multidrug-resistant organisms (MDRO), has been applicable to the Hospital and Critical Access Hospital Accreditation programs and is now applicable the Nursing Care Center Accreditation program. 

NPSG.07.03.01: Implement evidence-based practices to prevent health-care associated infections due to multidrug-resistant organisms in nursing care centers. Note: This requirement applies to, but is not limited to, epidemiologically important organisms such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Clostridium difficile (CDI), vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE), carbapenem-resistant enterobacteriaceae (CRE), and other multidrug-resistant gram-negative bacteria.
