The Smart Parent's Guide

Getting Your Kids Through Checkups, Illnesses, and Accidents

March 16, 2010

The Smart Parent's GuideIntroducing The Joint Commission’s and Joint Commission Resources’ second book specifically for the public – The Smart Parent’s Guide to Getting Your Kids Through Illnesses, Accidents, and Checkups:  Expert Answers to the Questions Parents Ask Most. This book is informative and authoritative yet still accessible, interesting, readable, and fun—Dr. Spock meets your best gal pal next door.  No health care jargon—just valuable information that every parent needs.  Every chapter starts with a fun quiz to test parents’ knowledge of the topic. The book reveals “insider” recommendations about how to protect your child’s health, whether in the emergency department, pediatric unit, or doctor’s office, or when at the pharmacy or at home.  The book provides:

  • Guidance in choosing the right pediatrician, the right hospital (make sure it’s Joint Commission accredited!), and the right emergency department for your child;
  • Smart questions and tips for being involved and staying on top of your child’s care when he or she is at the pedatrician’s office for an illness or checkup, at the emergency department, or admitted to the hospital;
  • And lots more!

The Joint Commission and JCR collaborated on this new book with Jennifer Trachtenberg, M.D., a nationally renowned parenting expert and board-certified pediatrician.  Dr. Jen maintains a successful private pediatric practice in New York City, where she is also assistant clinical professor in pediatrics at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine, a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and a mother of three children.
