In March 2016, leaders at The Joint Commission, the American Hospital Association and the Federation of American Hospitals collaborated to distribute a survey to 886 randomly selected accredited hospitals in order to gather information specific to the challenges health care organizations are experiencing while working towards meeting the new Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting (Hospital IQR) Program requirements for electronic clinical quality measures (eCQMs).
Recently, the results of this survey were compiled and are being shared to inform key stakeholders. Specifically, The Joint Commission is utilizing the survey results to identify and plan ways to assist organizations to meet these requirements. The new Pioneers in Quality™ program is actively utilizing these results to establish education and reference materials.
Going forward, The Joint Commission plans to reassess the status of the field during this time of transition. A follow up survey is planned for the fall of 2016 to determine how the status of the challenges in meeting the new measurement requirements may have changed.
