Performance Measure - Data Regarding Stroke After Admission
A patient experiences a stroke several days later after being admitted with another diagnosis. What day is considered to be the first day for compliance with the performance measures?

Patients with a Principal ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM Diagnosis Code for ischemic and/or hemorrhagic stroke are included in the measure population. Patients with a secondary diagnosis code for stroke are not in the measure population. Therefore, the patient in the example above would not be included in data collected and reported to The Joint Commission for any of the measures.
