Ventricular Assist Device Program Revisions

Effective January 1, 2022, The Joint Commission made several changes to the requirements in its advanced certification program for ventricular assist devices (VADs), which includes changes based on the December 1, 2020 decision memo released by the US Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Initial notification of these changes was communicated in the April 2021 issue of Perspectives. The Joint Commission also took the opportunity to make updates to the program based on best practices in organizations that provide VADs.
