Updates to the Patient Blood Management Certification Program Requirements
The Joint Commission approved new and revised requirements for hospitals and critical access hospitals certified under the Patient Blood Management certification program. The updated requirements will be effective July 1, 2023.
The Patient Blood Management certification program is a voluntary certification based on the AABB Standards for a Patient Blood Management Program. The two-year certification encompasses all aspects of the transfusion decision-making process, including patient evaluation and clinical management. The program is designed to reduce the need for allogenic blood transfusions and reduce costs while ensuring that blood components are available for patients who need them.
