New Requirements for the Advanced Certification in Perinatal Care
Beginning January 1, 2023, The Joint Commission will offer the Advanced Certification in Perinatal Care (ACPC) in collaboration with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) to Joint Commission–accredited, non-Joint Commission accredited, and non-accredited hospitals and critical access hospitals with perinatal care programs.
ACPC goes beyond the current perinatal certification to encompass all pregnancies while focusing on areas that are high risk for maternal morbidity and mortality such as mental health disorders, including substance use, addressing health-related social needs, and identifying health care disparities. This new program will ensure that organizations provide integrated, coordinated, patient-centered care that starts with prenatal care and continues through postpartum care. The current Perinatal Care Certification will be replaced by the new ACPC Certification.
