New and Revised Requirements for Health Care Staffing Services Certification
Effective January 1, 2022, The Joint Commission will implement revisions to three Health Care Staffing Services certification standards. The changes include the following:
- Standard HSHR.3 now clarifies that this is the firm’s new employee orientation and specifies that it takes place before the new hire’s first assignment start date.
- Standard HSHR.4 will no longer include clinical staff supervisors, and this revision supports deleting EPs 5 and 6. New EP 8 requires firms to engage knowledgeable and experienced clinical professionals in competence-assessment-related activities. New EP 9 requires firms to implement procedures that identify the pre-defined circumstances in which these clinical professionals will be engaged.
- Standard HSLD.9, EP 5 has been revised to specify that testing of the emergency management plan includes the test date and any identified opportunities to improve the plan.
