Recipient of inaugural Tyson Award is UMass Memorial Health
The Joint Commission and Kaiser Permanente are pleased to announce UMass Memorial Health as the inaugural recipient of the Bernard J. Tyson National Award for Excellence in Pursuit of Healthcare Equity for their initiative Prioritizing Child Health: Promoting Adherence to Well-Child Visits, UMass Memorial Health.
The Tyson Award honors the late Kaiser Permanente chairman and CEO’s memory by recognizing extraordinary efforts made by health care organizations to improve health care disparities, with the goal of inspiring other health care organizations to take action against inequity.
UMass Memorial Health is recognized for their efforts that dramatically improved adherence to well-child visits among pediatric patients who identify as Black (59% to 75%) and patients who identify as Latinx (64% to 76%). UMass Memorial Health’s results also showed reduced disparities in adherence between patients identifying as white and those identifying as Latino or Black. The health system’s application was notable in its use of data to support its goals and results.
UMass Memorial Health will be recognized in a virtual award presentation on Nov. 19, 2021 at 11 a.m. CT. Register to attend the ceremony.
