The Joint Commission and National Quality Forum (NQF) honored national, local and individual efforts to improve patient safety and healthcare quality through the prestigious John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Awards. The awards are named for the late Dr. Eisenberg, a leading advocate for healthcare quality improvement.
- CommonSpirit Health in Chicago was honored for National Level Innovation in Patient Safety and Quality for its innovative approach to achieving and sustaining clinical excellence.
- Parkland Health in Dallas received the Local Level Innovation in Patient Safety and Quality for developing a comprehensive surveillance program to address missed opportunities for diagnosis.
- Elliott K. Main, MD, received the Individual Achievement award for his numerous contributions as a national leader in maternal quality and safety, directing programs at the hospital, health system, state and national levels.

The Joint Commission has announced Marc Siegel, MD, as a keynote speaker for UNIFY 2025™: Convening for Quality in Washington, D.C., September 16–17, 2025. Dr. Siegel’s keynote address, “Maintaining Safe Healthcare Now & Into the Future,” will be followed by a question-and-answer session led by Jonathan Perlin, MD, PhD, president and CEO of The Joint Commission and Joint Commission International.
Dr. Siegel is the senior medical analyst for Fox News and medical director of Doctor Radio on SiriusXM. He is also a clinical professor of medicine and a practicing internist at New York University’s Langone Medical Center. His distinguished career in medicine and media has placed him at the forefront of America’s largest conversations on healthcare.
UNIFY 2025 is a convening of healthcare leaders, clinicians, industry experts and quality professionals to talk peer to peer on the issues influencing healthcare quality and patient safety. The overarching theme will focus on how to advance healthcare excellence and deliver the best possible outcomes for all patients and communities.
The Joint Commission has announced a long-term strategic partnership with Palantir Technologies, a leading data, analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) company. The collaboration aims to revolutionize how healthcare organization and accreditation data are gathered and utilized.

Jonathan B. Perlin, MD, PhD, president and CEO, The Joint Commission and Joint Commission International (JCI), and Dr. Neelam Dhingra, MBBS, MD, vice president and chief patient safety officer, JCI, led the inaugural JCI Patient Safety Grand Rounds on April 30, 2025. The session focused on challenges and opportunities in patient safety and included insights from international patient safety champion Sir Liam Donaldson. The recorded session is now available.
The Patient Safety Grand Rounds are part of JCI Patient Safety Pathways, a strategic initiative that aims to develop, strengthen, sustain and enhance patient safety policies and procedures with actionable plans, especially for organizations in the early stages of establishing quality infrastructure. The other components of the Pathways initiative are to develop a cadre of patient safety champions and to provide tailored technical support to select healthcare organizations from low- and middle-income countries.
The second session of the Patient Safety Grand Rounds, Diagnostic Safety: Importance of Clinical Reasoning and Role of Technology, will be held on June 25, 2025.
An on-demand webinar is now available on the fully revised “Infection Prevention and Control” (IC) chapter for office-based surgery settings, effective July 1, 2025. The Pioneers in Quality webinar will introduce the new and revised requirements, offer practical applications of the requirements, and highlight available resources, including a reference guide and IC program assessment tool, to assist organizations in meeting the requirements.
