Comment on proposed new requirements to address environmental sustainability
The Joint Commission is developing new requirements to address environmental sustainability for the Hospital (HAP) and Critical Access Hospital (CAH) accreditation programs. We are seeking input from the field on the proposed new Leadership (LD) Standard LD.05.01.01.
Healthcare organizations can no longer ignore their contributions to greenhouse gas emissions. Hospitals consume energy (such as electricity and natural gas) and use materials (such as disposables) that contribute to increased waste and greenhouse gas emissions. Hospitals need to take action to minimize their carbon footprints as they care for patients. Hospitals can begin decarbonization activities by measuring and reducing their greenhouse gas emissions.
Comment now on the proposed requirements. Feedback will be accepted until May 3.
