Joint Commission adds pharmacist to surveyor team for organizations registered with National Comprehensive Cancer Network
The Joint Commission has added the role of pharmacist to its survey team for healthcare organizations that are registered with the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. The announcement was made during the 2022 American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Summer Meetings and Exhibition earlier this month.
The decision was highlighted in an article in Pharmacy Practice News, being heralded as a “game changer” by Joint Commission Resources’ Jeannell Mansur, PharmD, FASHP, FSMSO, Principal Consultant.
“With all the problems with complex orders, pharmacists need to resolve incomplete documentation of the physiologic parameter,” Mansur told Pharmacy Practice News, adding that she has seen medication-related issues get addressed quicker with a pharmacist included on the survey team.
