The Joint Commission recognizes Inova as the first in the nation to achieve its Responsible Use of Health Data™ (RUHD) Certification – a groundbreaking new recognition for the responsible use of secondary data or data used for purposes beyond clinical care.
RUHD is a voluntary certification, available to hospitals and health systems. It provides guidance to help healthcare organizations use secondary data necessary for learning, safety, quality and operations improvement. Using healthcare data for the greater good allows for unprecedented advances in patient safety and quality of care for all patients.
In commemoration of this achievement, the two organizations hosted a roundtable discussion on Dec. 2 at the Inova Center for Personalized Health with thought leaders and policymakers, including Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) and Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA), on the critical importance of leveraging healthcare data to improve the delivery of care while protecting patient privacy.
A new blog by Tom Vasko, chief executive officer of Newman Memorial Hospital in Shattuck, Oklahoma, shares insights on the hospital’s participation in The Joint Commission’s Rural Health Clinic (RHC) Accreditation Pilot Program.
Vasko explains how the pilot program provided the critical access hospital with an educational experience, empowering staff to transform the way they deliver care. By conclusion of the accreditation survey, the hospital developed a framework of actionable steps to improve patient safety and quality of care.
Since receiving RHC Accreditation, Newman Memorial has increased its volume of services and provider participation by 76% over a 20-month span.
