Prepublication Standards – Standards Revisions Related to Stroke Maintenance

June 19, 2017

To provide clarity and consistency among its stroke certification programs for accredited hospitals, The Joint Commission has identified requirements in the Acute Stroke Ready, Primary Stroke Center, and Comprehensive Stroke Center certification programs that require revisions.  All revisions are editorial in nature and do not change the original intent of the requirement.  The areas of revision include the following:

  • Moving requirements that apply to multiple programs so they are located at the same standard and element of performance across all programs.  (such as DSPR.1, EP1)
  • Deleting redundant requirements
  • Revising requirements or adding notes for clarification (such as DSPR.5, EP6 in Primary Stroke Center and Acute Stroke Ready)

Prepublication Standards:

**Note:  PSC requirement DSDF.3, EP 2c states that the head CT is performed and read within 45 minutes of patient presentation.  Previously, the requirements stated that the CT was completed in 25 minutes and read within 20 minutes.**

Prepublication Standards - Effective January 1, 2018
