The Joint Commission has reviewed the Behavioral Health Care accreditation manual and identified a number of standards that required maintenance, such as clarifications to existing language, new elements of performance (EPs), and revisions to notes. This project occurred in two phases; both phases are now complete.
The phase two revisions consist of the following:
- A new element of performance (EP) has been added to Standard CTS.02.01.03 that requires organizations to gather individual’s relevant health information from other providers.
- Standard CTS.02.01.11, EP 1 has been revised to include a component about eating disorders. Also, the note has been removed from the standard.
- New Standard CTS.04.03.20 addresses the supervision of individuals served and applies to organizations providing inpatient crisis stabilization care, treatment, or services.
- CTS.05.05.09, EP 1 has been revised to make it clearer.
- CTS.05.05.09, EP 5 has been deleted. The requirement to document physical holding of a child or youth in the clinical/case record was out of place in the Care, Treatment, and Services chapter and is now addressed in the Record of Care chapter.
- The note at CTS.05.05.11, EP 1 has been revised.
- A new EP has been added to CTS.05.05.21 regarding physical holding by an authorized staff member. This change will align the standard with the revision to CTS.05.05.09, EP 1.
- The note at CTS.05.06.09, EP 1 has been revised.
- A new EP has been added to Standard CTS.05.06.35 that requires organizations to add details about their written policies and procedures regarding restraint or seclusion.
- In RC.02.01.05, language has been added to the standard referencing physical holding, and new EPs 5 and 6 detail what should be included in the clinical/case record regarding physical holding.
