The Joint Commission has been a nationally recognized leader in performance measurement since the mid-1980s. As such, the Division of Healthcare Quality Evaluation has gained extensive experience and expertise in the identification/development, specification, testing and implementation of standardized performance measures. The Joint Commission’s standardized performance measure development methodology is considered the "gold standard" in health care today. The Joint Commission has successfully developed and nationally implemented many sets of standardized core performance measures for hospitals. The measure data derived from these measure sets is used by hospitals for internal quality improvement, by The Joint Commission as part of the accreditation process, and is publicly reported on the Joint Commission’s web site at Quality Check.
