Maryland Senate Bill 1057

June 10, 2013

md_flag2On May 2, 2013 the Governor of Maryland signed Senate Bill 1057 which requires health care staffing firms to be licensed by the Office of Health Care Quality, in the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The bill contains a provision that will allow health care staffing firms to use the survey of a national accrediting body as a means of satisfying the state licensure requirements.
Final implementation and rules for the law are expected by October 1, 2013. Staffing firms that place nurses and allied health professionals in Maryland health care facilities may be able to save time and effort by using Joint Commission certification in lieu of a state survey.
It’s an exciting option on the horizon. As more details become available we will let you know. So stay tuned!
