Participating nursing homes advance quality improvement efforts during CDC study

The Joint Commission recently completed the study, “Challenges and Facilitators to Standardized Measurement of Infections related to Clostridium-difficile and MDROs in Nursing Homes: A Prospective Multisite Study,” which was supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

2018 NPSGs feature new MDRO goal for nursing care centers

The 2018 National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs) are now available on The Joint Commission’s website. You can download the entire chapter from the accreditation standards manual or easy-to-read versions of the NPSGs.


Reminder: Revisions to EC, LS chapters take effect Jan. 1

The Joint Commission revised the Life Safety (LS) and Environment of Care (EC) chapters following adoption of the 2012 editions of the National Fire Protection Association’s NFPA 101: Life Safety Code© and NFPA 99: Health Care Facilities Code©.


Phase 4 revisions for EP Review Project

Phase 4 of The Joint Commission’s EP Review Project — a multi-phased component of Project REFRESH — has started, with elements of performance (EPs) across all accreditation manuals being evaluated for streamlining and consolidation. Revisions from the first part of Phase 4 will be effective Jan. 1, 2018.


Revisions for Medication Management standards

The Joint Commission revised its Medication Management (MM) standards for all applicable accreditation programs, including Nursing Care Center Accreditation, to ensure they continue to reflect evidence-based practices and quality and safety issues that have emerged from the field in recent years.
