Medical Staff (CAMCAH / Critical Access Hospitals)

Time Periods for Completing the Credentialing Process
Updated | November 24, 2008
Q: Must a specific timeframe be established for each step of the process for appointment, reappointment and initial, renewal, or revised clinical privileges?

A: No. A specific time frame for completion of each step of the process is not required. It is required that the medical staff bylaws (CAMH) or policies or other documents (CAMAC, CAMLTC, CAMBHC) clearly define the steps in processing an application, and a specific time frame for acting on a complete application, not each step of the process.

Initial credentialing, privileging and appointment occurs together within a defined time frame. Reappointment and renewal or revision of assigned clinical responsibilities also usually occur within a defined time frame established in the bylaws, or policies or other documents.
