Sentinel Event Alert, Issue 9: Infant Abductions: Preventing Future Occurrences

April 9, 1999

Sentinel Event Alert Issue 9This Sentinel Event Alert has been retired.  The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children provides guidelines to address infant abductions in health care facilities. Infant abduction is a sentinel event, as defined by The Joint Commission’s Sentinel Event policy, which requires organizations to conduct an immediate  comprehensive systematic analysis and respond to the event. This continuing safety issue may be addressed in future Joint Commission publications or other media.
