Revised Hospital and Critical Access Hospital Requirements to Align with CMS

June 20, 2014

In fall 2013, The Joint Commission reapplied to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for deeming authority for accredited hospitals. In response to CMS’s review of its application, The Joint Commission developed and revised several elements of performance (EPs) for hospitals and critical access hospitals. These revisions were designed to demonstrate equivalency to the current Medicare Hospital Conditions of Participation (CoPs). Any additional changes that may result from further CMS review will be communicated in future issues of Perspectives and Joint Commission Online, as well as on the Prepublication Standards webpage.
