Today is National Time Out Day, and The Joint Commission and the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) remind all surgical team members, and hospital and ambulatory surgery center administrators, of the need to conduct a time out for every patient, every time.

The Joint Commission appoints Jennifer Rocchi as Director of Business Operations

The Joint Commission announced the appointment of Jennifer Gust Rocchi, CPA, M.B.A., as the director of Business Operations in the Division of Business Development, Government and External Relations at The Joint Commission. Ms. Rocchi was previously the associate director for Strategic Business Unit Performance at The Joint Commission and was responsible for providing financial counsel and guidance to business development’s strategic business units.

Key leaders of China’s health care system visit Joint Commission International

Nearly a dozen key leaders from China’s health care system visited Joint Commission International on June 11. The delegation was led by Minister Sun Zhigang, vice chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission and chairman of the Medical Reform Office of the State Council for the People’s Republic of China, who oversees the health care reform initiatives for 1.2 billion Chinese citizens.

Seeking sites to pilot test draft comprehensive stroke performance measures

The Joint Commission is seeking volunteer hospitals to pilot test 10 draft comprehensive stroke (CSTK) performance measures. This pilot test provides a unique opportunity to influence the approach that may ultimately be crafted to ensure the quality of care provided by Joint Commission designated Comprehensive Stroke Certification programs. The pilot test will assess the draft measures and their specifications; it will not assess the performance of individual organizations.
