Since its launch on September 13, 2010, the Joint Commission Center for Transforming Healthcare’s Targeted Solutions Tool™ (TST) has collected almost 500,000 hand hygiene observations. Using the TST, users have significantly improved their hand hygiene by mirroring the work of the Center’s participating health care organizations – which include some of the nation’s leading hospitals and health systems – and achieving similar positive results. The TST data collected demonstrates that health care organizations are significantly improving their hand hygiene compliance rates throughout the U.S. On average, organizations have improved 48 percent over their baseline measurements and are sustaining those results. While the majority of the projects begun are hospital-based, more than 20 percent of the hand hygiene projects are in other settings, including ambulatory care, behavioral health care, critical access hospitals, home care, laboratory and long term care. Approximately 75 percent of projects are being conducted in adult medical-surgical and adult critical care units and ambulatory care settings, with the remainder in adult intermediate care or units, emergency departments, long term care settings, or in pediatric settings. If your organization is interested in starting a project and would like assistance, contact Customer Service at (630) 792-5800 or send an e-mail to tst_support@tcthc.org.
