The Joint Commission’s enhanced electronic application for accreditation (E-App) is now available. The E-App has been redesigned for all accreditation programs, except for the laboratory accreditation program and certification programs. The improvements to the E-App are intended to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of The Joint Commission’s internal processes in order to better meet customers’ needs and expectations. The enhanced E-App underwent extensive customer usability testing and improvements were made based on that feedback. Initial customer responses to the enhanced E-App have been overwhelmingly positive. Enhancements include:
- More intuitive and user-friendly
- Easier navigation
- New look and feel
- More specificity by accreditation program and care setting
- Improved printing functionality
The completeness and specificity of the enhanced E-App will help Joint Commissions surveyors and staff better understand organizations and be better prepared to meet organizations’ accreditation needs. Should customers need assistance with the new E-App, there are a number of resources available, including FAQs, helpful hints, an improved glossary, and a video tutorial that highlights new functionalities. Questions about the enhanced E-App can be directed to e-app@jointcommission.org or to the organization’s account executive.
Please note that the organization’s basic demographic information, sites and some service information has converted to the new E-App. However, since some new information is being collected, the pages will need to be completed in sequential order the first time the new E-App is submitted. For subsequent submissions, pages can be completed in any order. Also, organizations are encouraged to update the contact information on the E-App since this information is used to send important accreditation-related information, including the notice of awarding of Top Performer designation. When updating the E-App information, make sure to include the correct name and e-mail address of the organization’s CEO and the Joint Commission contact/liaison. Also, make sure the organization’s name is accurate and is how it should be reflected on a certificate or award. (Contact: Eric Danielson, edanielson@jointcommission.org)
