The Joint Commission hasrevised standard EM.03.01.03 for the home care program to allow flexibility in the emergency management exercise. The revisions define the essential components of all effective exercises and allow for different types of exercises to be conducted (including tabletops) as long as the criteria for scope and rigor are met. The requirements are effective January 1, 2013. The proposed revisions underwent field review beginning October 20, 2011 through December 1, 2011, and were reviewed by the Home Care Professional and Technical Advisory Committee.
