The Joint Commission, AORN recognize National Time Out Day, June 13

TimeOut

Today is National Time Out Day, and The Joint Commission and the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) remind all surgical team members, and hospital and ambulatory surgery center administrators, of the need to conduct a time out for every patient, every time. National Time Out Day was initiated as an annual awareness campaign by AORN in 2004 and is supported by The Joint Commission, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Council on Surgical & Perioperative Safety (CSPS). It is a powerful tool that supports surgical nurses’ ability to speak up for safe practices in the operating room. For more information, including a downloadable copy of the AORN Comprehensive Surgical Checklist, visit the AORN website
