The Joint Commission salutes biomedical and clinical engineering professionals during Healthcare Technology Management Week, May 20-26, 2012. This annual celebration is designed to raise awareness of and appreciation for the critical work of health care technology management professionals who protect patient safety and reduce health care costs. At a time of rapidly changing medical technology, health care facilities keep pace by providing quality, well-trained professionals who understand the complexity of medical equipment operation and applications. Biomedical equipment technicians, clinical engineers, and other medical technology managers research, recommend, install, inspect, and repair medical devices and other complicated medical systems. They also advise and train others about the safe and effective use of medical devices.
