Acute Myocardial Infarction

August 22, 2014

In May 2001, the Joint Commission announced four initial core measurement areas for hospitals, which included acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and heart failure (HF).  Simultaneously, the Joint Commission worked with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on the AMI, and HF sets that were common to both organizations.

Changes coming effective 1/1/2015:

Effective 1/1/2015 CMS will no longer support the specifications for the measures AMI-2 and AMI-10. Therefore, these measure specifications have been removed from the aligned Specifications Manual for National Hospital Inpatient Quality Measures. The Joint Commission will continue to require the AMI-2 and AMI-10 measures to be collected and these measure specifications are now located in the Specifications Manual for Joint Commission National Quality Core Measures.  AMI-1, AMI-3, AMI-5, AMI-7, AMI-7a, AMI-8 and AMI-8a measure specifications remain in the aligned Specifications Manual for National Hospital Inpatient Quality Measures and should be submitted to The Joint Commission together with AMI-2 and AMI-10 as part of the AMI core measure set.

Submit your questions about AMI measure specifications to the Performance Measurement Network Q&A Forum.
