Development of a National Performance Measurement Data Strategy
Download the white paper: Development of a National Performance Measurement Data Strategy
In today’s health care environment, the meticulous collection and meaningful portrayal of relevant quality data and information are equally vital to health care organizations, practitioners, purchasers, and the public. It is through the use of reliable performance data that health care organizations and individual practitioners are able to determine priority areas for quality improvement, and purchasers and consumers can make informed decisions about accessing and purchasing health care services. Yet, as inextricably linked as the use of performance data is to quality improvement and informed decision-making, there is decidedly little cohesion among the myriad performance measurement efforts underway today, and there is most notably no national strategy to coordinate and systematize the collection, aggregation, and dissemination of performance measurement data to interested stakeholders. Indeed, there has been little public policy discussion of--nor even a recognized need for--such a national strategy.
The Performance Measurement Data Strategy Roundtable has been charged to frame the key issues and make recommendations for attaining a cohesive and efficient system for the collection, aggregation, maintenance and dissemination of performance measurement data from across the continuum of care that meets the needs of all stakeholders.
