Eric B. Larson, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.P., is director of the Center for Health Studies at the Group Health Cooperative in Seattle.
The Center for Health Studies conducts research related to prevention, diagnosis and treatment of major health problems. Larson's research spans a range of general medicine topics and has focused on aging and dementia topics, including a long-running study of Aging and Cognitive Change set in the Group Health Cooperative – The UW/Group Health Alzheimer's Disease Patient Registry/Adult Changes in Thought Study.
Larson previously served as medical director and associate dean for Clinical Affairs of the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle from 1989 to 2002. He chairs the Board of Regents of the American College of Physicians, sits on the Board of Commissioners of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, and is a member of the Joint Commission's Tort Resolution and Injury Prevention Roundtable. He has served as president of the Society of General Internal Medicine and chaired the Office of Technology Assessment/Department of Health and Human Services' Advisory Panel on Alzheimer's disease and Related Disorders.
Larson earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston and his master's degree in Public Health from the University of Washington in Seattle, where he completed the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program. He trained in internal medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston and served as chief resident of the University of Washington Medical Center.
