A: Check with the state's nursing practice act to determine the scope of practice for an LPN. It may be possible for an LPN to perform partial or full assessment in only specific situations such as personal care and support services. The nurse practice act may also differentiate between assessment data collection and assessment of the data. It may be possible for an LPN to collect the data and then have an RN assess the data and determine the patient needs and plan for the care.
