The Joint Commission has established a pilot project for "deemed status" with Illinois for long term care accreditation. That is, an organization in substantial compliance with Joint Commission long term care standards is "deemed" eligible to be licensed. The Joint Commission is working with several other states interested in establishing long term care deemed status relationships and reliance for licensure.
There is currently no federal deeming authority for Medicare or Medicaid certification.
