From the Executive Director
The Joint Commission began evaluating hospital laboratory services in 1979. Since 1995, clinical laboratories surveyed using our standards have been deemed to be certifiable under Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA '88) requirements.
Joint Commission accredited laboratories must meet rigorous quality standards. Accreditation helps laboratories improve quality, reduce costs, demonstrate accountability, and increase participation options in managed care and other contractual arrangements -- all critical elements for long-term success in a rapidly changing health care marketplace.
Payers and the public recognize Joint Commission accreditation as an important seal of approval. Accreditation demonstrates your commitment to the highest level of quality standards. Throughout the survey process, you'll receive important performance improvement consultation from our medical technologist surveyors, most of whom have advanced degrees and an average of over 20 years' experience in the field. Our surveyors receive rigorous ongoing training to ensure that they stay on the leading edge of laboratory developments and issues.
