Thank you for your interest in The Joint Commission’s laboratory accreditation program.  The Joint Commission is committed to helping organizations provide health care excellence.  Our accreditation and survey process is designed to uphold the highest level of patient care.  Almost 2000 laboratories are accredited by The Joint Commission, ranging from small labs to large complex ones with diverse specialties. Here are some key aspects of our program:

  • Unique tracer system that follows results to the bedside, bridging the important diagnostic services to patient care delivery in a continuum of quality management
  • Professional surveyors who each evaluate 45-75 labs per year, providing insight to a wide range of laboratory best practices.  All surveyors have laboratory management experience.
  • Laboratory Advantage is product of a collaborative relationship with American Proficiency Institute (API) and ASCP, called “Lab Advantage”.  In order to participate, a Joint Commission accredited lab must participate in some API PT events.  API PT is approximately 30-40% less costly than CAP PT.  ASCP educational sessions will be provided at a 10% discount and The Joint Commission will provide a 5% discount, annually, on accreditation fees.
  • Single accreditation organization for both your facility and you laboratory, reducing your time spent as an enterprise managing accreditation activities.
  • Dedicated account executives who know you and your laboratory to best assist you with your application and serve as a single point of contact to find the right answer for your questions.
