The Joint Commission offers a modified survey process to multiorganization systems that own or lease at least two behavioral health care organizations. This option has three components:
- corporate orientation
- consecutive survey of participating organizations with the same survey team leader
- corporate summation
Your system may choose to have either a corporate orientation, a corporate summation, or both. The orientation session lets corporate staff orient the survey team to your system's structure and practices. The team will also survey centralized corporate services, documentation, and policies and procedures applicable to Joint Commission standards. The corporate summation provides an overall analysis of your system's strengths and weaknesses. It also provides consultation and education on accreditation survey findings across the system. There is a separate fee for the corporate orientation and corporate summation.
The Joint Commission accredits individual health care organizations that are part of a multiorganization system, not the system itself. Therefore, each organization within your system will receive its own accreditation decision and report. The findings and decision for one behavioral health care setting within your system have no bearing on those of another setting within the same system.
